"Happy 1st Birthday Evie"
My sister's neighbors were having a first birthday party for their daughter Evie shortly after Valentine's Day, so they asked for a few ideas and we came up with this cake! There was A LOT of cake for this one (I'm getting used to figuring out how much cake is needed for the intended amount of guests, but it's always difficult. I guess I expect people to eat more cake, but what do I know since I don't eat cake!). I iced the cake in buttercream and cut out fondant hearts in different shapes using "cookie cutters". I underestimated the amount of time it takes to ice a cake this large, but there's a first for everything and that's how I'm learning! You can't see the border, but I also used a strip of red fondant with "indentations" of the small hearts using the smaller "cookie cutter". I also made a smash cake for Evie to dig her hands into (for tradition on a first birthday). It turned out to be a cute cake that I was really pleased with!
